Honey Bee Swarms

Have You Found a Swarm?

Honey bees sometimes gather in large clusters on tree branches, fences, bushes, or other outdoor surfaces.

Swarming is a natural part of honey bee reproduction. A swarm is usually temporary while scout bees search for a new home.

What Should You Do?

  • Keep children and pets away from the bees.

  • Do not spray the bees with water or chemicals.

  • Do not attempt to disturb or remove the swarm.

  • Contact a local beekeeper for assistance.

Before Contacting Us

Please gather the following information:

  • Your name and contact information.

  • The location of the swarm.

  • Approximately how high the bees are above the ground.

  • How long the bees have been there.

  • Whether the bees are clustered outdoors or entering a structure.

  • A photograph, if it can be taken safely.

Swarm Removal

Bee Happy, Bee Alive may be able to assist with accessible honey bee swarms.

Each situation is evaluated individually based on location, accessibility, and safety.

Bees Inside a Structure

If bees are living inside a wall, roof, chimney, or another enclosed space, removal may require a structural cutout.

Structural cutouts are different from collecting an exposed swarm and may require a specialist.

We can discuss the situation and help identify an appropriate next contact.

Additional Information

More information about swarm collection, structural cutouts, and local resources will be added soon.
